"In this chapter, we learn about the birth of Isaac," Mama Otter explained. "Abraham and Sarah were getting old and they didn't have any children, but God promised them that they would have a son."
Papa Otter continued, "Sure enough, Sarah became pregnant and she gave birth to a son named Isaac. Abraham was so happy and grateful to God for keeping his promise."
Mama Otter said, "But there was a problem. Sarah had a maidservant named Hagar who had a son named Ishmael. Sarah became jealous of Hagar and her son and she told Abraham to send them away."
Papa Otter added, "But God had a plan for Hagar and her son too. God told Hagar that he would make a great nation from Ishmael and that he would bless him."
Olivia asked, "What does this story teach us?"
Mama Otter replied, "This story teaches us about the power of God's promises and his love for all people. God kept his promise to Abraham and Sarah and he also had a plan for Hagar and her son. It also reminds us that jealousy and unkindness are not things that God wants us to have in our hearts."
Papa Otter hugged Olivia and said, "God has a plan for each and every one of us. We just need to trust him and have faith in his promises. Genesis chapter 21 is a beautiful story of God's love, promise-keeping, and his plan for all of us."
Olivia smiled and said, "I will always trust in God's promises and have faith in his plan for me. I will also make sure to not have jealousy or unkindness in my heart."
Mama Otter and Papa Otter hugged Olivia and told her how proud they were of her for understanding the story and what it means.
